Cairo Tower (Burj al-Qāhira)

  • Kasr Al Nile, Zamalek

Description

Rising proudly above the skyline of Egypt’s bustling capital, the Cairo Tower (Burj al-Qāhira) is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Located on Gezira Island in the Nile River, the tower stands at 187 meters (614 feet), making it the tallest structure in North Africa.

Completed in 1961, the Cairo Tower was designed by Egyptian architect Naoum Shebib, who blended modern engineering with Pharaonic influences. Its design is inspired by the lotus flower, a symbol of ancient Egyptian civilization, and its open lattice concrete structure gives it a unique and elegant appearance.

The tower offers a 360-degree panoramic view of Cairo, with a revolving restaurant and observation deck at the top. On a clear day, visitors can spot landmarks like the Pyramids of Giza, Tahrir Square, and the Citadel from its heights.

Built during President Gamal Abdel Nasser’s era, the Cairo Tower was also a political statement of national pride and independence. Today, it remains a beloved tourist attraction and a powerful symbol of Egypt’s blend of heritage and modernity.
